Registration

Little Highlander Academy is now registering children ages 2 to 5 years old. Little Highlander Academy will follow the Lake Wales Charter Schools calendar. Registration forms are available now in the main office of Lake Wales High School or you can print a copy here. Please attach a $45 non-refundable registration fee and return to the address below. Please make all checks payable to Little Highlander Academy.

Curriculum

  • Little Highlander Academy will offer developmentally curriculum to encourage a child’s natural desire to learn.
  • Hands-on engaging learning environment.
  • Individually one-on-one attention with low student-to teacher ratios<
  • Experienced teachers with CDA credentials, director's licenses, and/or bachelor degrees in Family & Consumer Science.
  • New state of the art playground.
  • Little Highlander Academy will follow the PCSB calendar and be open all teacher workdays.

Voluntary PreK

We are offering a free voluntary prekindergarten class for four year olds. In order to be eligible for VPK for the 2009-2010 school year, a child must be 4 years old on or before September 1st. VPK eligibility is not based on income. VPK eligibility is determined based on age and residency.

5 easy steps to VPK Registration.

1. Complete and sign the VPK application. Call Little Highlander Academy @ 678-4222 for an application or visit the Early Learning Coalition to download an application. You may also pick up an application at one of the locations below.

2. Bring:
- A copy of proof of child’s age (examples: Birth Certificate, Passport, etc)
- Copy of proof of Florida residency:

Examples: utility bill, driver’s license, etc. Proof must match name and physical address on your VPK application

3. Bring the signed application and documents to either of the following locations:

We will be accepting ARBOR’s School Readiness funding for the 2009/2010 school year. Please contact List Davis @ 678-4222 for further eligibility information regarding ARBOR funding.

    Science Olympiad Competition

    The Science Olympiad team competed in their regional event on Saturday in Clearwater and were amazing. All students represented Lake Wales very well. Participants were: Parris Hall Kim Balaun Aaron Molly Kristen Ahlberg Alex Pass Erick Castillo Jocelyn Simmons Johnny Hall Becky Blackwelder Ulisez Bamaca Now to the best part. The kids competed in 21 out of the 23 events and won 7 medals. We won’t know our overall standing until later this week and this will determine whether we

    LWHS hosts 8th graders & parents on Jan. 10

    LAKE WALES – Lake Wales High School will hold a special Open House on Tuesday (Jan. 10) for parents of current 8th grade students. The 8th Grade Parent Meeting will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the LWHS Auditorium. Parents will learn about programs, classes and extracurricular activities. School leaders also will discuss the transition from middle school to high school. During the school day on Tuesday, 8th graders from McLaughlin Middle and Bok Academy will have a chance to

    County FFA Livestock Judging Contest

    County FFA Livestock Judging Contest Highlander Family, Yesterday the Lake Wales Senior FFA chapter competed in the Polk County FFA Crooked Lake Livestock Judging Contest. We received 2nd place out of all the high schools in Polk County! Also, Steven Powell was the number one individual in the entire contest!
