Cassandra Wolf chosen for Silver Garland Award

Cassandra Wolf was chosen for the Performing Arts category of the Silver Garland Awards, sponsored by the Lakeland Ledger. Her efforts included working with the Lake Wales Little Theatre over the past 12 years. In that time she joined the board of directors and implemented a drama club that began a free acting school for teens to gain communication and leadership skills.

Lake Wales High School is very proud of Ms. Wolf.

International Baccalaureate School Authorization

We are pleased to announce that LWHS is now authorized to teach the IB Diploma Program. We are currently accepting freshmen IB candidates for the fall of 2012.

IB Information Meeting: Thursday, April 26th at 6:30 PM in the HS auditorium.

Deadline to Apply: Friday, May 11th by 5:00 PM; rolling admissions subsequently, subject to availability.

FFA Goes to STATE!

The following students competed in the Area (Orange, Osceola & Polk Counties) Ornamental Horticulture Demonstration Contest held at Haines City High School today at 4pm. The top two teams in each category advance to the state finals in Gainesville at the University of Florida on April 27th.
Sarya Brown 1st place in the Consumer Use Division
Harley Byrd & Spencer Maldonado 1st place in Production Division
Jacqueline Caples & Brinsley Houk 3rd place in the Marketing Division
All three teams we took placed at the contest and two teams will be representing Lake Wales Senior FFA at the State Contest!

Gardening on the Ridge

This is the garden group who spent many hours out behind the school prepping, running irrigation, planting, and cleaning out the shed. It was tough work but the spirits were high as this group of students see the outcome of their labor.

Poor Jonathan Kaufman, the only gentleman who came out to work. I just hope we planted the seeds properly so we can yield all that is in the ground. Hopefully after the next few months everyone will be able to share in what these folks have been able to prepare.

LWHS Goes a day without shoes!

This is “Impact Week” at Lake Wales High, sponsored by the National Honors Society. Tuesday’s impact is to spend the entire day without the use of shoes, to bring about awareness of those in other countries less fortunate than ours that go everyday without a pair of shoes. TOM’s shoes is a company that supports effort to get everyone shoes. When you by one pair of TOM’s shoes they donate a pair of TOM’s shoes to someone in need of shoes. This is an international event, “A Day Without Shoes” on April 10, 2012.

Science Olympiad Competition

Below is a link for a video of the State Science Olympiad competition on Saturday at UCF. Johnny Hall, freshman, is competing in the gravity vehicle event. The goal is to release the car and have it stop at a mark 5.4 meters away. Johnny’s closest run put him 12 cm away from the target!!! He placed 9th out of 42 in the entire state. This is his first year competing in Science Olympiad.

The entire team did well and we had huge improvements over last year.
